The AASMT is committed to helping our members develop a local network of Sports Medicine Support Services in their your communities. As a certified Sports Medicine Technician with AASMT, you are qualified to train and certify Personal Trainers and OptiHealth Coaches as Sports Medicine Assistants and Technicians.

The "scope of practice" for a Sports Med-Tech Assistant is limited to the Body Composition, Fitness, and Nutrition Analysis protocols. All Exercise and Nutrition Rx's are tentative until reviewed, modified if indicated, and officially issued by a certified Sports Medicine Technician.

Sports Med-Tech Assistants must be supervised (directly or remotely) by a certified Sports Medicine Technician. Also, Sports Medicine Technicians can use the Online Forms for further review by a Sports Medicine or Lifestyle Medicine Specialist in order to help ensure client satisfaction, continuity of care, and quality assurance.

As a certified Sports Medicine Technician INSTRUCTOR, you can earn a substantial portion of your student's Certification Course Fee.

The more Sports Medicine Assistants and Technicians that you can recruit, train, and certify, the greater will be your network of fitness professionals, which leads to more referring physicians and potential clients. The goal of the AASMT is to have every fitness gym  in the U.S. host a Med-Fit Clinic with at least one local certified Sports Medicine Technician and a team of Sports Med-Tech Assistants.
To train and certify a Personal Trainer as a Sports Medicine Technician:
  • Conduct a Medical-Fitness Test on the Personal Trainer as if he/she was a client
  • Have the Personal Trainer watch you do at least 1 Medical-Fitness Test on an actual client
  • Answer or defer to your supervising Sports Medicine Specialist any questions that the Personal Trainer might have
  • Watch the Personal Trainer conduct at least 1 Medical-Fitness Test on a sedentary friend/relative of the Personal Trainer
  • Watch the Personal Trainer conduct at least 1 Medical-Fitness Test on a n actual client

After completing the training process described above, use the form below to register the Personal Trainer as a Pre-Qualified Student.

Your name as the certified Sports Medicine Technician who instructed the Personal Trainer identified below.
The name of the Personal Trainer that you instructed to become a certified Sports Med-Tech Assistant.
